The Science of Skin Ageing

Understanding Collagen Loss.

Collagen is the structural protein that gives skin its firmness, density and bounce. Together with elastin, it forms the scaffold that holds the skin taut against gravity and movement. Through your twenties, your skin produces collagen faster than it breaks it down. From your late twenties onward, that balance quietly reverses — production declines by roughly one percent every year, while the enzymes that degrade collagen keep working at full pace.

This is why the first fine lines appear where the skin moves most — around the eyes, across the forehead, framing the mouth. It's why skin that once snapped back begins to feel thinner and less resilient, and why firmness along the jawline and cheeks gradually softens. These changes are structural, happening in the dermis, well below the reach of skincare alone.

Intrinsic ageing is only part of the picture. In Brisbane, ultraviolet exposure is the single greatest accelerator of collagen loss — UV radiation directly fragments collagen fibres and switches on the enzymes that dismantle them, a process dermatologists call photoageing. Add chronic inflammation, hormonal shifts (particularly the sharp decline in collagen production around menopause), smoking, disrupted sleep and a diet high in refined sugar — which stiffens collagen through glycation — and the skin's structural decline compounds year on year.

The encouraging science is this: your fibroblasts, the cells that manufacture collagen, never lose the ability to produce it. They simply need the right stimulus. That is precisely what this pathway is designed to deliver — repeatedly, progressively and safely.

Why Not Just One Treatment?

Why A Treatment Pathway.

A single collagen-stimulating treatment produces a single wound-healing response. It is genuinely beneficial — but collagen remodelling is a slow biological process that unfolds over roughly twelve weeks per stimulus, and one round of new collagen cannot reverse years of gradual loss.

Lasting structural change requires repeated, layered stimulation: each treatment builds on the collagen laid down by the one before it, while the skin is supported through every stage of regeneration and cellular repair. Timing matters just as much as technology — treat too frequently and you interrupt remodelling; too infrequently and momentum is lost.

Different technologies also stimulate collagen through different mechanisms and at different depths. Combining them reaches more of the dermis than any single modality can, which is why a clinician-sequenced pathway consistently outperforms the same treatments booked at random — and why long-term maintenance after your series protects the collagen you've rebuilt.

Six Appointments · One Structured Journey

Your Clinical Journey.

Your program includes six clinician-guided appointments, carefully sequenced to maximise collagen stimulation while allowing appropriate healing and regeneration between treatments. Collagen RF Skin Tightening may be scheduled every two weeks, while Medical-Grade Skin Needling and Advanced Fractional Skin Resurfacing are typically performed every four weeks. The sequence below is a representative journey — your clinician will tailor the exact timing to your skin’s response throughout the program.

Appointment 01

Medical-Grade Skin Needling

Thousands of controlled micro-channels trigger the skin's wound-healing cascade, activating fibroblasts and beginning fresh collagen and elastin synthesis across the full face.

Appointment 02

Collagen RF Skin Tightening

Radiofrequency energy gently heats the deeper dermis, causing existing collagen fibres to contract and tighten while stimulating new collagen production at depths needling does not reach.

Appointment 03

Advanced Fractional Skin Resurfacing

Fractional energy remodels the deeper layers of the skin — refining texture and fine lines while accelerating long-term collagen regeneration.

Appointment 04

Medical-Grade Skin Needling

A second needling treatment compounds the first — new micro-channels re-activate the regenerative response while collagen from your earlier treatments continues maturing.

Appointment 05

Collagen RF Skin Tightening

Repeated radiofrequency builds cumulative dermal tightening, reinforcing firmness through the mid-face, jawline and any areas of laxity your clinician is targeting.

Appointment 06

Advanced Fractional Skin Resurfacing

A second resurfacing treatment consolidates the series — deepening the remodelling of texture and fine lines so your rebuilt collagen finishes smooth, firm and refined.

The Clinical Rationale

Why These Treatments Work Together.

Each technology in this series stimulates collagen through a different biological mechanism. Medical-Grade Skin Needling works mechanically — micro-injury triggering the release of growth factors and fibroblast activation, stimulating natural collagen and elastin production through the upper and mid dermis. Collagen RF Skin Tightening works thermally — delivering controlled energy into the dermis to contract existing collagen fibres while driving new collagen production where laxity originates. Advanced Fractional Skin Resurfacing remodels the deeper layers of the skin in controlled columns, refining texture and accelerating long-term collagen regeneration.

Layered in sequence, these mechanisms compound. Needling primes the regenerative response; radiofrequency deepens and tightens it; resurfacing remodels the result at the level where texture and lines are actually seen. The spacing is equally deliberate — tightening treatments may be repeated every two weeks while the remodelling treatments hold to four, keeping the skin in continuous collagen production without ever interrupting a healing cycle.

This is the difference between a pathway and a package: nothing here is bundled for convenience. Every treatment, and its position in the sequence, exists because of what the treatment before it started and what the treatment after it needs.

What To Expect

Expected Outcomes.

Collagen remodelling continues for months after your final appointment — results build gradually and keep improving. Individual outcomes vary with skin condition, age and consistency.

Improved Firmness

Progressive tightening through the cheeks, jawline and areas of early laxity as new collagen establishes.

Softened Lines & Wrinkles

Visible softening of fine lines and wrinkles as collagen density rebuilds beneath them.

Refined Texture

Smoother, more even skin surface as fractional resurfacing remodels textural irregularities.

Brighter Complexion

Renewed cellular turnover restores light reflection and reduces the dullness of thinning skin.

Stronger Skin Density

Measurably healthier, thicker dermal structure — skin that behaves younger, not just looks it.

Long-Term Resilience

A rebuilt collagen foundation that maintenance treatments can protect for years to come.

Questions · Answered

Collagen Renewal FAQs.

Who is this series suitable for?

Collagen Renewal suits anyone noticing fine lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness or early laxity — and equally those wanting to work preventatively before those changes establish. Your clinician confirms suitability at your first appointment, and if your skin presents more complex or multiple concerns, an Advanced SKYNN Consultation may be recommended so a fully personalised program can be designed instead.

How long does the program take?

Six clinician-guided appointments — Collagen RF Skin Tightening may be scheduled every two weeks, with needling and resurfacing typically four weeks apart, so most clients complete their series over three to five months. Collagen continues remodelling for roughly three months after your final treatment, so results keep improving after the program ends.

Is there downtime?

Most treatments involve minimal downtime — typically redness for 24 to 48 hours after needling or radiofrequency. Fractional resurfacing involves a few days of visible recovery, and your clinician will schedule these around your calendar and guide your aftercare at every step.

Can I upgrade treatments within my series?

Yes. Treatments can be upgraded, and optional enhancements such as exosomes or Rejuran PN can be added at any point on your clinician's recommendation. Program Members receive 15% off eligible enhancements.

What homecare is recommended?

Collagen-supportive homecare meaningfully improves results — typically a vitamin A, vitamin C, peptides and daily SPF, prescribed specifically for your skin. Your clinician will build your homecare plan at the start of your series, and Program Members receive 15% off all prescribed skincare.

When will I see results?

Many clients notice improved glow and hydration within the first weeks. Structural change — firmness and softened lines — builds progressively through the series, with the most significant improvement visible two to three months after your final appointment as new collagen fully matures.

How are appointments spaced?

Collagen RF Skin Tightening appointments may be scheduled every two weeks, while Medical-Grade Skin Needling and Advanced Fractional Skin Resurfacing are typically performed every four weeks. Your clinician tailors the exact timing to your skin’s response — spacing that allows each collagen cycle to establish before the next stimulus.
